Project “European Network for Social Integration Entrepreneurship: social inclusion and development of rural regions for a better European future” executed under Europe for Citizens Programme, Strand 2, Measure 2.2 “Networks of towns”.
Main goal of project is to create an international network for knowledge sharing in the field of Social Integration Enterprises. The Network of partners will include towns, municipalities, experts, non-profit institutions as well as educational and research bodies.
The project counts with 12 partners from ten European countries: Slovakia, Hungary, Italy, Romania, Portugal, Latvia, Czech Republic, Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia. The project will be carried out between September 2017 and December 2018 within 6 events. Project will include experienced partners in the field of setting up Social Enterprises as well as partners, who wish to enhance the social and economic life quality of their citizens but lack the needed support and know how. Project am to create a platform for exchanging know how, best practice examples and discussing new paths and possibilities in the field of Social Integration Enterprises. In line with goals, partners want to establish a system for educating unemployed citizens and reintegrating them into work life.

– Contextualize Social Integration Enterprises within EU policies
OUTCOMES OF THE PROJECT
– A strategy for long-term sustainability in establishing and running Social Integration Enterprises
– Publication of a “manual” for establishing of social enterprises
– Involvement of civic society in the process of social integration
– Raising awareness of societal and civic benefits from Social Integration Enterprise in 6 different countries.
The KICK OFF PARTNERSHIP meeting was held in Slovakia, Filakovo, in 20-22 September 2017 continuing by Initial conference of the project.
Social innovation centre (SIC) has been established in 2010 as the non-governmental organization, legally located in rural municipality Ķekava, but in social entrepreneurship field acts in national and international level. In the project “European Network for Social Integration Entrepreneurship: social inclusion and development of rural regions for a better European future” SIC replicates to 2 municipalities – Municipality of Ķekava and Municipality of Salaspils, and Vidzeme Planning Region which is an umbrella organization and includes 25 local municipalities (novads).
In accordance with EU 2020-strategy and the Interim objective of Sustainable Growth for prosperity in the EU strategy for the Baltic Sea Region «Social Enterprises are created specifically to pursue social goals which in turn correspond to the prioritized area of “sustainable growth from increased prosperity” ». The National Development Plan of Latvia for 2014-2020 envisages public involvement in solving social problems, promoting the establishment and functioning of social enterprises. Since in 2014 the Cabinet of Ministers of Latvia approved the concept “On social entrepreneurship implementation possibilities in Latvia”, Social entrepreneurship law has been put to parliament for first reading and most probably will entry into force in the beginning of next, 2018 year. Meanwhile 2016 – 2022 the Ministry of Welfare in cooperation with financial institution Altum implements EU grant program and a pilot project “Support towards social entrepreneurship” in scopes of which the social enterprises in Latvia will be recognized and granted.
SIC is dedicated to solve social challenges, raise social innovation knowledge and social welfare in Latvia as well as facilitate and promote the best practices, knowledge and gained experience at the international level. There are 3 main areas SIC concentrates on: 1) promotion of social entrepreneurship; 2) different solutions to overcome youth unemployment; 3) society challenges (e.g. people with special needs) and 4) civil engagement and e-governance.
SIC provides non-formal learning about social innovation; social entrepreneurship workshops, discussions, accelerators and consultations; political processes, and policy formation for disadvantaged society groups, integration and increase of society participation in social and political processes.
