Results of the «FUTURE»

The project « FUTURE » was funded with the support of the European Union under the Programme “Europe for Citizens”

7 events have been carried out within this project:

Event 1

Participation: The event involved 51 citizens, including 3 participants from the city of Ioannina (Greece),

1 participant from the city of Riga (Latvia), 3 participants from the city of Setubal (Portugal), 2 participants from the city of Tetovo (North Macedonia), 2 participants from the city of Starachowice (Poland), 4 participants from the city of Savignano sul Rubicone (Italy) and 36 participants from the city of Prague9 (Czech Republic)

Location / Dates: The event took place in Prague9 (Czech Republic), from 13/10/2021 to 15/10/2021

Short description:  The aim of the event was focused on the topic LESS OR MORE EUROPE: THE 5 SCENARIOS DEPICTED BY THE WHITE PAPER ON THE FUTURE OF EUROPE AND THEIR IMPLICATIONS FOR

EUROPEANS.

During the three days period partners had plenty of time to present, discuss and network.

Each partner presented their profile and experiences and the discussion was focused on the topic connected to White Paper and related Conference announced by Ursula von der Leyen.

During second day, a workshop on “Implications for the Europeans of the 5 scenarios depicted by the WP, ranging from a minimal Europe to a deeper integration” was organized with the collaboration of all participants, young Ambassadors and the students of High School in Prague 9.

All the participants – divided into different groups -discussed the issues related to the 5 scenarios: environmental protection, economy, hate speech on media, foreign policy about migration…

Young Ambassadors participated and shared the results emerged from the local workshops during the Tell your Story session focused on What should be preserved and what should be changed on the Future of Europe

 

Event 2
Participation: The event involved 76 citizens, including 6 participants from the city of Ioannina (Greece),

3 participants from the city of Riga (Latvia), 2 participants from the city of Prague9 (Czech Republic), 4 participants from the city of Tetovo (North Macedonia), 4 participants from the city of Starachowice (Poland), 7 participants from the city of San Mauro Pascoli and Sogliano al Rubicone(Italy) and 50 participants from the city of Cascais (Portugal),

Location / Dates: The event took place in Cascais (Portugal) from  18/05/2022  to 20/05/2022

Short description:  The aim of the event was focused on the topic THE ROOTS OF EURO-SCEPTICISM, RACISM, INTOLERANCE IN EUROPE; HOW TO FACE THEM.

The event saw the participation of a very active and numerous groups of young people thanks to the concomitance with another Europe for Citizens event of the project “LEAP”.

In the morning part, partners have been joined by local organisations and representatives of the Municipality of Cascais to address the main topic such as Extreme Right Movements, Xenophobia, Racism and the measure that can be taken to counter them. Each partner presented their views about policies and activities of their city/organization aiming to counter discrimination, xenophobia, racism and extreme right movements.

They shared their experience and best practices in working with persons and groups at risk of discrimination, xenophobia and racism.

All representatives participated to a round table together with Joana Cruz-Schilling, Political Analyst at European Commission Representation in Portugal, addressing the main doubts/questions about European Union by young people. Young Ambassadors participated and shared the results emerged from the local workshops during the Tell your Story session

 

Event 3
Participation: The event involved 51 citizens, including 3 participants from the city of Ioannina (Greece),

2 participants from the city of Prague9 (Czech Republic), 4 participants from the city of Setubal (Portugal), 3 participants from the city of Starachowice (Poland), 3 participants from the city of Gambettola (Italy) and 36 participants from the city of Riga (Latvia),

Location / Dates: The event took place in Riga (Latvia), from 15/06/2022 to 17/06/2022

Short description:  The aim of the event was focused on the topic “THE ROLE OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN DISINFORMATION ON EU AND IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF ENEMIES, MENTAL BARRIERS AND FEARS”.

In the first morning, international participants and local stakeholders shared their point of views on hate campaigns, disinformation, fake-news regarding EU & sensitive/divisive topics like immigration.

Each partner presented the situation in their countries. Very stimulating have been the contributions by Rihards Boreiko, social media as a tool of soft power specialist and Sindija Bokāne author of digital content and media expert, who fueled the debate about the use of social media and how to distinguish between fake and real news.

The event was also a precious opportunity to deepen the historical and social context of Latvia and the history of its independence won after years of occupation. Partners visited the local places of memory and the Exposition “Remember. Mention. Remind.” at the Museum of Occupation of Latvia. Young Ambassadors participated and shared the results emerged from the local workshops during the Tell your Story session

 

Event 4

Participation: The event involved 51 citizens, including 2 participants from the city of Ioannina (Greece),

2 participants from the city of Riga (Latvia), 2 participants from the city of Setubal (Portugal), 3 participants from the city of Tetovo (North Macedonia), 4 participants from the city of Prague9 (Czech Republic), 2 participants from the city of Borghi (Italy) and 36 participants from the city of) Starachowice (Poland)

Location / Dates: The event took place in Starachowice (Poland), from 14/09/2022 to 16/09/2022

Short description:  The aim of the event was focused on the topic “THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NATIONALISM AND PATRIOTISM; THE ROLE OF IDENTITIES; HOW TO RAISE A EUROPEAN PATRIOTISM”.

During first day, experts and young people discussed about the difference between nationalism and patriotism, thanks to a preliminary lecture by Marcin Gołębiowski Phd – Deputy of Mayor of the City of Starachowice in Social Affairs.

The debate was fed by a second intervention by Kama Kępczyńska-Kaleta local singer in the folk band Bielinianki, Master of Polish Language 2021 about the theme “Local patriotism in European Union – is it possible?”

During the second day participants had the opportunity to visit the Centre for Patriotic and Civic Thought in the City of Kielce and the Museum of the Dialogue of the Cultures in Kielce.

Contributions & discussion of cases faced or known by participants on patriotism and nationalism in their daily life (at work, school, in free time, on the bus, on social media.) were shared during the visit.

Event 5

 Participation: The event involved 51 citizens, including 2 participants from the city of Prague9 (Czech Republic),

2 participants from the city of Setubal (Portugal), 3 participants from the city of Tetovo (North Macedonia), 4 participants from the city of Starachowice (Poland), 4 participants from the city of Roncofreddo and Longiano (Italy) and 36 participants from the city of Ioannina (Greece)

Location / Dates: The event took place in Ioannina (Greece), from 19/10/2022 to 21/10/2022

Short description:  The aim of the event was focused on the topic “THE RICHNESS OF DIVERSITY IN EUROPE AND THE LESSONS OF THE PAST, REGARDING THE RACIAL POLICIES OF THE 1930S IN EUROPE, THE DESTRUCTION OF CULTURAL AND ECONOMIC HERITAGE”.

During the first day, young people shared their views on the important subject that is diversity during the Tell your Story session.

They presented the actions implemented in their countries around this topic and focused on the diversity that exists today in their regions.

The debate was fed from watching a film and a documentary on the subject

Two schools from the city of Ioannina High School “Zosimaia” and High School “Dodonaia” participated to the debate on second day, presenting their actions and research around the topic in question.

During the event, participants were invited to discover and get knowledge about the history and culture of the Ioannina community by visiting the Historical centre of the town and the Ancient Synagogue of Ioannina since in the town is present one of the oldest communities in Europe. (Romaniote Jews)

 

Event 6

Participation: The event involved 51 citizens, including 4 participants from the city of Ioannina (Greece),

2 participants from the city of Riga (Latvia), 2 participants from the city of Prague9 (Czech Republic), 3 participants from the city of Starachowice (Poland), 4 participants from the city of Gambettola (Italy) and 36 participants from the city of Tetovo (North Macedonia),

Location / Dates: The event took place in Tetovo (North Macedonia), from 02/03/2023 to 04/03/2023

Short description:  The aim of the event was focused on the topic of ” THE CHARTER OF FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS OF THE EU”. During the first day, a seminar on the Charter of fundamental rights of EU was held. During the second day, young people shared their views on this important subject during the Tell your Story session.

They presented the actions implemented in their countries around this topic and focused on the diversity that exists today in their regions.

 

Event 7

Participation: The event involved 101 citizens, including 4 participants from the city of Ioannina (Greece),

9 participants from the city of Riga (Latvia), 2 participants from the city of Setubal (Portugal), 5 participants from the city of Tetovo (North Macedonia), 4 participants from the city of Starachowice (Poland), 5 participants from the city of Prague9 (Czech Republic) and 72 participants from Savignano sul Rubicone, Sogliano al Rubicone, Borghi, Gambettola, San Mauro Pascoli, Longiano, Gatteo, Roncofreddo, San Mauro Mare (Italy)

Location / Dates: The event took place in Savignano sul Rubicone, Sogliano al Rubicone, Borghi, Gambettola, San Mauro Pascoli, Longiano, San Giovanni in Galilea, Roncofreddo, San Mauro Mare (Italy), from 03/05/2023 to 05/05/2023

Short description:  The aim of the event was focused on the topic “THE FUTURE OF EUROPE”.

During the first day, the participants and Young Ambassadors were involved in a debate focused on the Future of Europe and in the actions to build a Europe closer to its citizens. The debate was organized with the participation of Regional Councilor Lia Montalti and the students of the Marie Curie high school.

A lot of questions came up in particular referring to problems connected to climate change and migratory phenomena.

During the second day of the final event, the project participants have been invited in Gambettola, one of the Union municipalities, for a meeting with local Schools. There were present the students of the primary and secondary classes of Savignano and Gambettola

The project participants presented their cultural traditions, languages and habits. After the presentations, all participants have been involved in a quiz game to assess the knowledge about countries of the project.

The app Kahoot has been used to make the game more fun and challenging. The young students participated with great involvement and throughout the meeting there was an atmosphere of play and celebration.

The event program also allowed the participants to discover the history and traditions of the area by visiting Savignano sul Rubicone, Sogliano al Rubicone, San Giovanni in Galilea, Gambettola, San Mauro Mare, San Mauro Pascoli and Roncofreddo, in particular some of the places of historical and cultural importance such as the Museum of San Giovanni in Galilea, the Casa del Formaggio di Fossa di Sogliano, Villa Torlonia in San Mauro Pascoli with the museum dedicated to the poet Giovanni Pascoli.

The last event was therefore a moment of beautiful sharing, an atmosphere of participation and high interest in the themes of the project with all the prerequisites for continuing the cooperation and the work already begun between the partners with upcoming projects in the future.
